The Art Fund, in conjunction with the Work Foundation, produced Free to See, a piece of research into the public value of art collections. Previously, the Work Foundation’s consortium project on ‘public value’ looked at how public organisations could be more responsive by engaging with citizens. With Free to See, The Art Fund wanted to extend this analysis to the nation’s art collections – and in particular, to ask the visiting and non-visiting public what kinds of value they think they gain from them.
