The brief: to update BASCA’s (The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors) magazine that is sent quarterly to all members. The design had not been touched for several years, and the layout was uninspiring and outdated. Kathryn was asked to refresh the look, and suggest alternatives for the stock the magazine was printed on – the new design used an environmentally-friendly uncoated stock which gave it a much more contemporary feel. Subsequent issues would be designed by the magazine editor, so Kathryn had to take this into consideration, and make the layout, typographic styles and design devices easy to use as well as being flexible, to allow a different look and feel depending on the subject matter.
